Aboriginal uses:


  • This is a succulent, ground hugging coastal plant with attractive pink flowers.

  • When the petals drop off, the fruiting base of the flower swells up, turning purplish-red when mature.

  • The juicy centre contains seeds in a white pink pulp and the taste could be compared to that of zucchini (albeit a slightly salty one).

  • Aboriginal people ate these fruits fresh or dried.
