Aboriginal uses:


  • The roots of this tree have edible, juicey suckers, which maybe either of a bitter or sweet taste.

  • The yellow bark of the succulent root/ sucker was removed before it was eaten.

  • A raw, sweet gum oozed from the tree trunks, after slabs of the wood was removed for the making of shields. Families would return sometime after this activity to collect & eat the gum.

  • The blossoms of the Nuytsia floribunda were collected and soaked in water to make a sweet drink.
