Focus on Phytophthora Dieback
Since its introduction during European settlement the pathogen has spread through more than 1 million hectares of forest, woodland and heathland communities. Another million hectares of healthy bush is predicted to be under immediate threat from this disease.
Will the intended activities spread this disease and/or impact on healthy plant communities?
Under
State Planning Policy No. 2 Environment and Natural Resources, when preparing planning strategies, schemes and decision-making, planners are required to "5.1 (vii) Take account of (among other things) the potential for on-site and off-site impacts of land use on the environment, natural resources and natural systems." This includes key threatening processes such as dieback.
