Request: I am looking for information on how many peri urban and urban landholders there are in the Shire of Jerramungup and City of Albany (east of Manypeaks), what they do for a living, what their needs are in regards to NRM.Response

Area and distribution of rural smallholdings by shire can be obtained from DAFWA. This includes both statistics and maps showing spatial distribution. This information was used to compile the discussion paper for the project. See

Area and trends in urban land use can be obtained for each shire from the Department of Planning in Albany. Call (08) 9892 7333.
Characteristics and needs of smallholders can be requested from Neil Guise at DAFWA Email:
nguise@agric.wa.gov.au or Tel: (08) 9733 7777 who heads DAFWAs small landholders programme. DAFWA has been compiling information/stats on small landholder needs from workshops/field days etc.
Research into adoption of practices by small landholders has been undertaken by David Pannell and Roger Wilkinson who have also recently prepared a paper on
Policy mechanism choice for environmental management by non-commercial lifestyle rural landholders (click here). Some of the research derived was obtained from the Lake Warden area near Esperance, WA.
