Approach
EKSA will help you and your organisation uses a number of steps and methods to develop your knowledge
management system and website which are consistent with the Australian Standard for Knowledge Management, AS5037.
These are:
Plan & Design:
An EKSA consultant will work with you to clarify the project objectives and targets, the target audience, their decision making needs and decision trees. This will inform the design, structure and content of your system. We will also identify the main knowledge sources or suppliers and libraries of resources to access.
Content:
This involves identifying relevant information and knowledge sources and resources. These may be supplied by your organisation or by a consultant. We will generally undertake an information and knowledge audit as part of this phase to identify potentially relevant resources. These are catalogued in the Resource Cataloguing and Management Tool (RCAT) and reviewed for relevance and reliability using assessment criteria in the RCAT. Nodes are then created in the RCAT and resources linked to these. The RCAT can also be queried to provide gap analysis which can inform R&D needs.
Develop:
Once the RCAT is populated with draft content this is exported to the development site (usually a wiki website). This enables the content to be reviewed and discussed online by project team members and invited personnel. The content will then be modified in the RCAT before being exported to the production site for beta testing. Additional functionality such as news feeds, forums and calendar of events can also be added at this stage.
Deploy:
Once reviewed the final knowledge base is deployed to the internet (or to CD-ROM/DVD or hard copy as required). A plan for communicating your knowledge base can be developed to ensure maximum exposure to the target audience and potential for adoption (also done in the planning and design stage). This will also take into account development and ongoing communication of updates and additions.
Manage:
Your organisations knowledge is a valuable asset which needs to be carefully managed and further developed. EKSA can host and manage your website and knowledge base as well as work with you to manage your own knowledge through licensed access to the RCAT or deployment of your own RCAT.
Monitor:
Monitoring usage of your knowledge base is critical for helping identify client requirements. EKSA can provide you with monthly reports to highlight how many times pages have been accessed and which resources have been downloaded.
These steps may not all be undertaken for a project. For example, if you have an existing document such as a set of guidelines which you want to make computer based, only those steps required to achieve this will be undertaken.
