<div class="nodeNotes"><h4>Summary of obligations</h4><br /><ul><li>Any person who has knowledge of aboriginal heritage places or objects shall report them to the Registrar of Aboriginal Sites at the Department of Indigenous Affairs, or a police officer,<br />unless the person reasonably believes that the Registrar already knows of the place or object.</li><br /><li>It is an offence to damage, destroy, or conceal aboriginal places or objects (and similar related<br />activities) without authorisation of the Registrar or the Minister of Indigenous Affairs.</li><br /><li>The Governor of Western Australian and the Minister of Indigenous Affairs have powers to<br />protect aboriginal sites by declaration of protected areas to control access on a temporary basis<br />or to compulsorily acquire the area, subject to the payment of compensation.</li><br /><li>Land on which is located an aboriginal site may be protected by means of a covenant between<br />the landholder and the Minister of Indigenous Affairs.</li></ul><br /><br /><h4>Administration</h4><br />Department of Indigenous Affairs<br /><br /><h4>Application</h4><br />Entire State</div>
